The Fall of the West is a detailed, thought provoking consideration of what factors and events have led to the Fall of the West as the leading scientific, technological and economic civilisaton in the world.
It considers the impact of World War One and Two on Western civilisation, as well as the current crises of debt, failing technological leadership and economic competitiveness, declining education standards and increasingly violent social behavior that confront Western leaders and citizens today.
It is essential reading for anyone trying to understand the Polarshift in world economic and technological power that is occuring today, and who wish to understand the past and future of the West.
It seeks to understand why this decline has occurred and if it is reversible.
The Fall of the West is part of Polarshift which may be purchased at

The Fall of the West eBook Matt Buttsworth

The Fall of the West is a worthy read because it attempts to set a context for the current state of the West. It relies on historical explanation and social analysis which increasingly is rare in serious scholarship. Personalities do not play a significant role in this book and that is refreshing. By starting with the impact of World War I on the West, the author establishes the beginning of the loss of the idea of national progress, the weakening of the ideal of human development, and the emergence of cultural ennui. The book is sufficiently footnoted to be accepted as serious scholarship but reads easily.

The Fall of the West eBook Matt Buttsworth Reviews

There are myriad books written on the causes of the West's upcoming decadence and fall. Different authors point at different causes for this imminent decadence. The assault of Islam and the demographic collapse of the European nations (Bat Yeor), the unsustainable economics of the welfare state, the degradation of society caused by the same (Darymple) and so on.

Dr. Buttsworth's work touches on all of these but adds a new fresh twist. He studies the "Confucian" countries in the Far East and adds them to the mix. The influence of China, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan on the worldwide economic scene, underestimated by most other authors, is carefully considered and brought to bear. This is not the final world in the chronicle of the West's impending collapse. It does not negate the threats that fundamentalist Islam coupled with plummeting birth rates pose to the West. It just focuses attention on another threat, that of the Confucian societies, with different values; values that the West is unable or unwilling to confront.

I may not agree with everything that Dr. Buttsworth proposes. His approach to taxation in particular is, I believe, counterproductive, but I found this work insightful, clever, original and, in the end, indispensable.
